Bonfire Night 2026: how this year works
Bonfire Night 2026 is Thursday 5 November. Midweek years split the season across two weekends — expect displays on 31 October–1 November (sharing the stage with Halloween, which is a Saturday this year) and the bigger cluster on 6–8 November. Organisers confirm from late September.
The 2026 quirk: Halloween Saturday, bonfire Thursday
This year Halloween lands on a Saturday and Bonfire Night the following Thursday. That compresses two of the biggest family nights of autumn into nine days — and means the first “fireworks weekend” competes directly with trick-or-treating. If you want the calmer version of both, do Halloween things on the Saturday and save fireworks for the 6–8 November weekend.
Council display, club display, or the pub garden?
- Council displays are the big free-or-cheap ones — huge crowds, park early or walk.
- Club and round-table displays (rugby clubs, cricket clubs, scouts) are the family sweet spot: fenced, stewarded, food vans, gate price. Advance tickets are usually cheaper.
- Pub and farm events are smaller and more relaxed — best for toddlers who need the fireworks slightly further away and a door to retreat behind.
With young kids
Earlier displays beat later ones (many club events light up around 7pm), the back of the crowd beats the front row, and ear defenders turn a borderline evening into a good one. If it’s a first time, a smaller club display is a kinder introduction than a city-centre one.
