Privacy policy
The short version
We collect your email only when you give it to us, we use it only for the thing you gave it for, and we don't sell it. We count visits without cookies and without storing anything on your device. Ads on this site are served by Google, which uses cookies you can accept or decline via the consent banner. That's the whole story; the detail follows.
What we collect and why
- Email alerts. If you ask for an alert (for example “when Leeds grotto bookings open”) we store your email address and the alerts you ticked: the section, the city and what you asked to hear about. We email you only about those, and only when they happen. Unsubscribe by replying or via any email’s unsubscribe link, and we delete you.
- Venue enquiries. If you send a party-venue enquiry we store your email, preferred date, headcount and city, and pass those details to suitable venues on the relevant list so they can reply to you directly. That is the only use. No mailing list unless you separately ask.
- Venue corrections. If you email us about a listing we keep the correspondence so we can fix things and show our working.
This data is stored with Cloudflare (our hosting provider) in their key-value storage. We don't run user accounts and we don't buy, sell or enrich personal data.
How we count visits (no cookies)
We measure how the site is used so we can tell which lists are useful, fix broken links, and show venues how many people their listing sends them. We do it without cookies and without storing or reading anything on your device to recognise you.
- What's recorded for each page view: the page, the time, the site you came from (such as Google), your approximate town and country from your connection, the network provider you connect through (used to filter out automated traffic from cloud servers), and your device type, browser and operating system as reported by your browser.
- How visitors are counted: your IP address and browser details are combined with a random value that changes every day and is deleted after about 26 hours, then turned into a one-way code. That lets us count unique visitors for a single day. Your IP address itself is never stored, and because the random value is deleted, the code can't be linked to you or to your visits on any other day.
- Engagement: a small script reports how long the page was open in front of you, how far down you scrolled, and which listings were on your screen for at least a second, when you leave the page. It stores nothing on your device. The listing counts let us tell venues how often their listing was seen.
- Venue clicks: when you click a venue's website or tap its phone number, we count the click so we can show that venue how useful its listing is. Links to venues pass briefly through our own address to do this.
We rely on legitimate interests to do this, and records are kept for about 13 months, then deleted automatically. They are stored with Cloudflare, our hosting provider.
Advertising cookies
We show ads through Google AdSense to keep the site free. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads, and — if you consent — to personalise them based on your visits to this and other sites. You choose via the consent banner shown to UK and EEA visitors, and you can decline personalised ads there; you'll still see ads, just not personalised ones. How Google uses data on partner sites: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also manage ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
What we don't do
- No cookies of our own, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting, no social media trackers, and no following you across days or across other websites.
- No sharing of signup or enquiry data with anyone except, for enquiries, the venues you asked us to contact.
- No retention for its own sake — signup and enquiry records are deleted on request, and enquiry records are cleared after the season they relate to.
Outbound links
Listings link to organisers’ own websites and box offices. Some booking links may earn us a small commission if you buy a ticket; those are labelled “Ad” next to the button. When you follow one, you pass briefly through the affiliate network’s address (such as Awin) on the way to the ticket seller, and that network may set its own cookie so the sale is credited to us. That cookie belongs to the network and falls under its privacy policy; SeasonHopper itself still sets none. Commission never affects which events we list or how we order them (see how we check listings), and it adds nothing to your price.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it corrected, or ask for it deleted. Email hello@seasonhopper.co.uk — it's read by the human who runs the site, and acted on quickly. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
